Is the Syrian civil society in front of the sorting moments?
Farooq Haji Mustafa
Editor in Chief.
As soon as the Brussels Conference which is held to discuss the future of Syria on 24-25(April) finished, until activists who considered themselves from the revolution became angry, perhaps because some of organizations that participated in the events of the conference, went out with a view they named it "the message" to the ministerial session on 25 of this Month.
For a moment the attendees of the conference breathed from the Syrian civil society a sigh of relief; because despite their different affiliations, where there is who came from the regime area, there is who came from the opposition area, and there is a Kurdish space, the attendees considered that they had just laid the first building block of the consensus in the Syrian public scene in The time when the regime and the opposition are unable to formulate a five-word speech for the world together, the Syrian civil society that attended the events in Brussels has been able to achieve a consensus on the most important challenges, needs and its future. All of them stood against the occupation of areas of Syria and demanded the withdrawal of all parties, and transitional justice and its application in national spirit rather than retaliation was a corridor for to bring peace to that, such as the lifting of the economic blockade on education, health and what people need in their daily lives and as the UN resolution 2254 is the measure of the solution and that is in Geneva.
In fact, civil society has been in a state of arduous negotiations for 4 days, and because they were from different environments; it has aroused great sensitivities, for example, the economic blockade is a means of effecting change in public life, while for the other may be the economic blockade is to destroy people's lives.
And because the author was among those attendees, the situation was very difficult, it is not easy to write a paragraph or paragraphs that are occupy our citizens, such as the recognition of students certificates who are outside the control of the regime, and also may find it difficult to convince your fellow counterpart who is coming from Turkey (for example, not exclusively) that the presence of Turkey in Afrin Creates tension and fascination among the ingredients in the north of Syria, which is the incubator of pluralism and societal diversity.
In fact, Syrian civil society lived in a real labor state and became between two states "be or not to be", but they went beyond discord, and we can say that we just starting to penetrate the walls that the opposition and the system had built and protected it together, so taking responsibility towards people and thinking about them might upset the Political ceiling from the both sides the opposition and the regime.
We are not surprised that some still believe that civil society is only an instrument of opposition hands; so we see them today annoy themselves and they are annoyed those who attended the Brussels Conference; Because it is not in their logic that the identity of civil society is limited to its service to the common good.
There are those who see that the equation “we have to be victorious” is the equation that occupies everyone, but it has provided civil society as a different matter, it is that everyone loses, and the only victor is overcoming discord and to engage in the battle of the maturity stage, that means building consensus for the country's future to be clear. Syria cannot become as how the opposition wants, nor like how the regime want. Because the future of Syria must be made up of the harmony between societal and political components.
Perhaps the belief in the consensus mechanism is practically the establishment of a different culture on the prevailing stereotype.
In a diverse and multi-community, no opinion can be imposed on the other. The right is to impose all opinions on the scene to get out with an opinion that expresses all the environments, Components or let us say groups, it is a word with its connotations of knowledge and its source is a political sociology, unlike the word "Components" which created by the immediate political discourse.
Indeed, the Brussels Conference has established a number of steps:
First, we have crystallized the culture of consensus-building, which is the most important achievement, as the new social covenant cannot be reached without relying on the mechanism of consensus.
Second: civil society has been able to penetrate the red lines of opposition and the regime, and focus on the situation, visions and aspirations of the people.
Third: It has been shown to the all that Syrian civil society can address a unified discourse to an international forum, and that is because of the sense of responsibility on the part of the actors to people's issues, not to the benefit of either the opposition or the regime.
Fourth: All with the country's issues in a responsible spirit such as the refusal to occupy the territory of Syria, whether from Turkey or Israel, even in the field of education, as recognition of student’s certificates who are outside the framework of the system are treated responsibly and responsive to the benefits of the stage.
At finally we say: in Brussels, the civil society has not only brought the reality situation to the Europeans and the United Nations, but the first building block has been achieved to crystallize the reality of civil society responsible for people's issues and imposing policy paths so close to realism and away from bloody narcissism.
